Fallout 3 won IGN's Game of the Year for 2008 in a near landslide, so you can imagine the excitement around these offices as the release of the first downloadable content approached. Operation: Anchorage is out now for Xbox 360, PC and PS3 so naturally I sat up last night waiting to download it and then playing straight through. I found the download to be a bit short for its price tag, but delivering enough of a thrill to make it worthwhile.
The download will take up 369.48MB on your hard drive and remove 800 Microsoft points (US $9.99) from your wallet. In return, you get four new quests, four more trophies, some new weapons and armor, and a trip inside of a battle simulation that was a testing ground for the battle to take back Anchorage, Alaska from the occupying forces of Communist China. Bethesda told IGN in a recent interview that it saw the downloadable content (DLC) as a means to flex its creative muscles. While the overall game mechanics remain the same, what you get in Operation: Anchorage is indeed a departure from the normal Fallout 3 gameplay.
