Like its predecessors, Worms World Party is a side-scrolling video game involving controlling a team of worms and using a collection of weaponry to eliminate the opposing team(s). The worms can walk and jump around and use tools such as the ninja rope and parachute to move to otherwise unreachable locations.

The worms have an arsenal of dozens of weapons, ranging from longbows to bazookas and from fireball to Holy Hand Grenades. There are also an array of special weapons, such as Armageddon (meteor shower) or the end-all, be-all Concrete Donkey. Some of these weapons are present in the worms' initial arsenal while others can be collected from randomly appearing crates during the game. For some weapons, such as grenades, holding the launching key longer shoots them further. The landscape can bedeformed with any weapon, forcing the players to adapt to changing environments. Also, in addition to the nature-made obstacles, the maps may contain land mines which explode when a worm comes close to one, and barrels which explode when shot, spreading out some burning napalm. These often lead to fancy combinations where, for example, a worm is first hit with a grenade and is then thrown against a mine which sets off another worm, which hits a third worm who slips into the water.

As a first-person shooter, Call of Duty places the player in control of an infantry soldier who makes use of various authentic World War II firearms in combat. Each mission features a series of objectives which are marked on the heads-up display's compass; the player must complete all objectives to advance to the next mission. The player can save and load at any time, rather than the checkpoint system utilized in later Call of Duty games.

The player has two primary weapon slots, a handgun slot and can carry up to ten grenades (all of the later Call of Duty games feature only two weapon slots; a sidearm will fill one of these slots). Weapons may be exchanged with those found on the battlefield dropped by dead soldiers. Unlike later Call of Duty games, the first allows the player to toggle between different firing modes (single shot or automatic fire). Call of Duty was one of the early first-person shooters to feature iron sights in game play; by pressing the corresponding key the player aims down the actual sights on the gun for increased accuracy. In addition to weapons carried by the player, mounted machine guns and other fixed weapon emplacements are controllable by the player.

The game uses a standard health points system, with a limited amount of health reflected by a health bar. Medkits scattered throughout the levels or dropped by some foes are used to restore health when the player is injured. This contrasts with all subsequent Call of Duty games in which there is no health bar and the player's health recharges when not taking fire.

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War is a military science fiction real-time strategy video game, developed by Relic Entertainment and based on Games Workshop's popular tabletop wargame Warhammer 40,000. It was released by THQ on September 20, 2004 in North America and on September 24 in Europe. Since its release, three expansion packs have been released: Winter Assault in 2005, Dark Crusade in 2006, and Soulstorm in 2008. The sequel, Dawn of War II was released in February 2009.

The Game of the Year edition was released on September 21, 2005 in the USA and on September 23 in Europe, containing 4 exclusive maps. Later, the Game of the Year edition and Winter Assault were bundled in the Gold Edition in the USA, released in March 2006. In November 2006, Dawn of War and its first two expansions were released together as The Platinum Collection in the USA or as the Dawn of War Anthology in the PAL regions. More recently, in March 2008, all three expansions along with Dawn of War have been released as The Complete Collection.

As a series Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War has sold more than 7 million copies worldwide as of January 2013.

Gameplay is initially focused on capturing and holding strategic locations on the battlefield. These control points are captured by infantry squads and provide resources to construct additional units and buildings or unlock certain units in an army's tech tree. Battles are won either by holding a certain number of control points for a period of time or by destroying all of the opposing armies' HQ structures.

If keep-your-trigger-finger-mashed-to-the-controller mayhem is what you crave, if old-school, top-down, isometric perspectives make you all weepy for yesteryear, and if your credit's so bad you can't afford an A-list game, well, you really need to lose the grunge wardrobe and enter the 21st century. A better job wouldn't hurt either. Or, you can keep the flannel shirts, cargo pants, and duct-taped PC, and invest a mere ten dollars in Wasteland Angel, a throwback game if there ever was one.

The first-ever release from brand new Finnish design studio Octane Games, Wasteland Angel is far from a "statement" game. It is simplistic, repetitive, and dated. It takes mere minutes to learn, it never breaks from the pattern it establishes early, and it's certainly no visual masterstroke. However, it is cheap, it does allow you to shoot stuff non-stop, and it's makes for down 'n dirty fun for those half-hour work breaks when the complexity and the mental and hardware demands of Call of Duty just don't fit.

Picross has been around a long time, long before computer games even. Those of an older generation may know of it by the names "color by numbers" or "pencil puzzles". The basic upshot of picross is to create a picture from an empty grid, using the numbers at the top and side of the grid as clues. The numbers tell a player how many blocks need to be filled in with an empty space around each group of numbers. If you've never played picross before there is a handy tutorial within the first section that is easily skippable by those who have loved this game for many a moon. Eventually every block in the grid will either have been filled in or removed to reveal an image. For those who love logic puzzles, picross is among the best!
