Zoo Tycoon 2 PC

It's no secret that I wasn't Zoo Tycoon's biggest fan. While the idea of running a zoo is certainly appealing, it wasn't exactly exciting. While I can't say it's perfect or really that much more exciting, Zoo Tycoon 2 is certainly better than its predecessor. The interface is a bit better, there are a few more features to fill in during some of the duller times, and the game has a new 3D engine that makes more creative enclosures possible.

The 3D engine is the big new improvement here because it allows the other additions to gameplay. But even with the new engine the graphics aren't exactly impressive. They're simple, easy, and obviously created for children. Neither models nor textures are especially detailed. Animation sets are bigger for each of the animals, reflecting their moods, and aren't bad, but aren't exactly fluid. There are plenty of collision detection problems with animals and environments causing them to slide across the ground. Still, everything from a visual standpoint is functional and nothing is particularly displeasing even if nothing is particularly pleasing either.

Zanzarah The Hidden Portal PC Game

German developer Funatics' game Zanzarah is very similar to Nintendo's popular monster-trading game Pokémon. In that game, and in this one, you collect small creatures and then train them to do battle with other small creatures, but in Zanzarah, you collect fairies instead of monsters, and you fight battles that resemble those in a first-person shooter. However, Zanzarah looks and sounds great, and though the game's somewhat effeminate art direction may seem a bit unusual, it seems somewhat appropriate in contrast to the intensity of the game's battle mode and its traditional role-playing elements. Zanzarah attempts to be a PC game that appeals to traditional interests of both male and female players, and it's moderately successful in doing so.The game puts you in the role of Amy, an 18-year-old London native at home alone. One strange noise and one mysterious unopened box later, she's in the world of Zanzarah, a fantasy land of lush forests, quaint villages, and squat little goblins, dwarves, and elves. Rafi, the swamp goblin who shanghaied Amy, greets her on arrival and explains that the fairies created Zanzarah long ago to protect all the wee folk from rampaging humans, but now the fairies are acting strangely, and they're attacking anyone who passes by their trees and rocks, and there are some shady-looking elves that just showed up too--so could she help because there's a prophecy that says she will? The story may seem just a little too trite, but at least it more or less dissipates into a lot of meandering quests once the game actually starts. Furthermore, all of Amy's conversations are one-sided: She never speaks and instead only listens to other characters talking at her, and as a result, the development of the plot, such as it is, seems thin.

Zombie Driver PC

Zombie Driver is presented in a top-down perspective, similar to games such as Grand Theft Auto 2. The player controls one of eight vehicles. Each vehicle behaves in the same fashion with regards to steering, movement, and weapons, but has different properties regarding acceleration, top speed, momentum, manoeuvrability, passenger capacity, and resistance to damage. Vehicles can be outfitted with a variety of weapons or equipment, ranging from machine guns to nitro boost, which are available in the world as pickups. Only one weapon/equipment can be equipped at a time, with new pickups completely replacing the previous weapon/equipment. Ammo capacity varies by weapon but is not affected by the vehicle driven.

The game takes place in varying areas of a single, unnamed city besieged by a zombie outbreak. Zombies are uniformly hostile towards the player and will attack and damage their vehicle using a variety of attacks depending on the specific zombie type. Zombies can be destroyed by driving into them with the player vehicle, by using acquired weaponry, or by using certain limited in-game hazards such as fires or explosives. Running into zombies will slow the vehicle down, the actual amount depends on the ramming power of the vehicle.
